How to Create a Real Drop Shadow in Photoshop with Layer Styles

How to Create a Real Drop Shadow in Photoshop with Layer Styles.

This tutorial is a basic instruction on how to create, apply and modify a drop shadow to any image in photoshop.

Steps

1.     Import the image you would like to use.
2.     Select magic wand too, select all, control + shift I. Then proceed to clean up any unnecessary selections.
3.     Select Refine Edge. Alter the smoothness to about 14 or whatever you feel comfortable.  Adjust Shift Edge to about -40. Put the image output: New layer.
4.     Select the new layer and apply drop shadow.
5.     Adjust settings to your desire. Example would be opacity at 80%, Distance at 0% px and Size to 10.
6.     Next separate the copied layer from the applied effects by control + right click and select create layer. A pop up window will say, “Some aspects of the Effects cannot be reproduced with layers.” Just go ahead and click ok.
6.     After this you can manipulate the shadows position, fill and opacity to your desired settings. And your done.
