Elements of Art & Design Part 1 of 2

This collection of photos gives three examples of the various Elements of Art & Design. It touches base on point, line, shape/form, texture, space, color, color harmonies, analogous colors and triadic colors.

Self Portrait # 8 Reflection of the Process

Looking back on the work It took to create this simple art piece I am proud of my work. I had a variety of ideas, directions and emotions to convey, but in the end I think the way it turned out is a honest representation of my personality and the person I will be the rest of my life. At the very end you will see the mount of time it took to brainstorm, draw, color and finally piece together my self portrait.

Self Portrait Step # 7 Hue/ Saturation and Black/White Experimentation

In this phase as you can see a experimentation of the background was done and the placement continued to move around the canvas. In the first image I had the cartoon images interacting with the realistic stills to give off a back and forth vibe of my mindset. In the second image I wanted to keep the interactions together with their mediums and have the lion roaring at me to symbolize my confidence and my happiness with my matured personality and the outside forces that are against me in this world. Lastly, I went back and forth on hue and saturation but decided to keep the color because it gave off a positive vibe. I felt the black and white edit just took away from the art presentation.

Self Portrait Step # 6 Figure Placement and Experimentation

In this next step I imported the four figures that I would be using and started playing around with their placement on the canvas. I went through a series of placements where the cartoon image of myself was behind me, hidden within the image transparently and then off to the left sort of like a duality, double personality. Same concept was applied to the tiger. Eventually the mirrored personality concept and their respective colors was the route I choose.

Self Portrait Step # 5 Background and it's perceived meaning

Now don't be alarmed by the layers off to the side. While I did wait to place the background in at the end I want to display it first because it was very important that I understand what type of background was appropriate to my imagery and also that it complimented the pieces of art I would be bringing in. In the end I choose to use the clouds and mirror them to cover the entire background without compromising the quality by over stretching the image.

Self Portrait Step # 4 Concluded Research

Just before I opened up photoshop I went ahead and did some final research on the type of background I would choose to have in my self- portrait. For the intent of showcasing comfortability, peace and happiness with the person I have become I choose to go with a cloud like theme
